Emotions
I was thinking about the shape of emotions. I have noticed the uniqueness of emotions, for example sadness has infinite forms.
When emotions arise, they can feel like a permanent state, yet in reality they are often fleeting.
The merging colours in these images represent the uniquely different combinations of emotions that occur within.
The watered ink reflects the fluidity and temporary nature of emotion, while the still image captures its seeming permanence.
The lightbox gives the images a vibrance, almost an electric quality,
expressing the energetic nature of emotions themselves.
To me, emotions remain mysterious, and I know I do not fully understand how they work. I wanted to
portray that sense of mystery within these images.
I believe emotions are what make life colourful. Creating these works felt cathartic.
A reminder to self, to resist identifying too deeply with whatever emotion I am feeling, because emotions are constantly changing, fluid, and ultimately beyond my control.
Watching the inks roll across the page and create
fleeting moments of beauty reminded me to release control and simply witness my emotions as they are.
